Exhibition marks 150 years for RNLI

Poole museum is celebrating 150 years of the Royal National Lifeboats Institute in Poole on Saturday 16 May with an exhibition spanning the history of service by its courageous volunteers and crew. The story is shown through ‘never before’ seen photographs, pictures and paintings covering the heroic, award-winning rescue and evacuation of allied troops in Dunkirk during World War Two and film covering the evolution of vessels over 150 years. Quest of Beauty in Bournemouth

Russell-Cotes Gallery and Museum opened its doors to a retrospective of Mucha’s iconic, opulent Art Nouveau work on 1 April. This fascinating exhibition of the Czech artists’ work was attended by Mucha’s grandson John and the directors of The Mucha Foundation. Mucha’s idiosyncratic paintings depicting erotic feminine beauty were used on posters, advertising and packaging in the 1930’s. The exhibition which has returned to Britain for the first time in 15 years runs until 27 September. Entrance £6. To find out more visit the Russell-Cotes website.

In Quest Of Beauty opens at the Russell-Cotes

Alphonse Mucha has opened doors at the Russell-Cotes, Bournemouth. The exhibition, In Quest Of Beauty, brings a comprehensive retrospective of his paintings to the museum.  Renowned for his distinctive and still influential style, exploring feminine beauty, Mucha explores a unique range of forms including adverts, magazines and even biscuit tins.

Mucha’s grandson, who attended the opening, said: “It’s a privilege for us to be exhibiting in this extraordinary museum.”

Crisis launches new art show in Bermondsey

Homeless charity Crisis has launched a new exhibition featuring 12 artists chosen by Turner prize winner Mark Wallinger at its art centre in Bermondsey.

Bow Arts Open Show, showcases visual, performance, conceptual and realist work.

The educational arts charity has held this annual event for the past 10 years and this year starts on 12th – 28th September, 11am – 5pm at the Bermondsey Project, 46 Willow Walk, SE1 5SF.
