Dorset to host Big Issue online journalism programme

For the first time since its launch, Poached Creative’s successful Big Issue online journalism programme will be run outside of London with the next course starting in the South West in May.

The course will be held in Poole, Dorset, opening up opportunities for local unemployed and homeless people to step towards careers in the area’s growing creative sector. The six-week pilot is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Poached Creative hopes it will be the first of a series of courses in the South West.

The previous courses over the past 18 months trained 47 graduates, most of whom progressed to employment, volunteering or further education.

The pilot programme will endeavour to assist the Borough of Poole to tackle the widespread deprivation in education, skills and training, regarded as the worst form of deprivation in the borough.

All candidates interesting in applying need to be long-term unemployed or marginalised with a passion for photography and writing. They will be invited to a brief interview, after which the successful candidates will undergo a training programme in either Photography or Journalism.

Following the training period they will be given the opportunity to publish their work online, in print and their work will feature on the course training blog, which will enable them to build a personal portfolio.

Applications for the programme are open until 23 April 2014. To apply contact us or email michelle@poachedcreative.com
